Earlier this month, I took my 11-year old son and his best buddy to Star Wars Celebration V. For Junior Jedi like them, this was a long awaited, can’t miss event. All their heroes were in one place. George Lucas, Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher were there: Not to mention the entire voice acting cast of the Clone Wars cartoon. I even got to meet General Grievous, as you can see from the picture:
As excited as my boy was to attend the Star Wars convention, I might be even more excited about my upcoming trip to the LavaCon 2.0 conference in San Diego. This year, the show covers BOTH Digital Media and Content Strategy, the two topics that drive my day. I could rattle off a list of superlatives to explain why I’m so excited, but I think I have a better idea. Instead, I’ll provide links to my favorite blog posts from just a few folks who will be presenting. After learning from these folks, it will be obvious why I’ll be making the jump to light-speed on my way to San Diego:
- Sarah O’Keefe – Scriptorium Publishing: 2010 Technical Communication Predictions
- Mark Fidelman – MindTouch, Inc: The Evolution of Documentation
- Alan Porter – 4jsgroup: Where’s The Manual?
- Ann Rockley – The Rockely Group: Coming full circle: eBooks to eBooks
- Scott Abel – The Content Wrangler: Marketing Mistakes In A Socially-Connected World
So, as I pack up the Millennium Falcon and double check the hyper-drive, I close with the words of Jack Molisani, Executive Director: To attract and engage the next generation of tech-savvy customers, we must do more than just write content—we must deliver user-optimized content when the customer wants it, where the customer wants it, and in the format the customer wants it.
I’ll be there, and I want to bring as many of you as I can. So I thought I’d ask, If you’re unable to attend, which session do you most want me to live blog?
I am looking forward to this year’s LavaCon enormously! But as cool as I think LavaCon is, I think that light sabers are still cooler.
But what if one could BRING a Light Saber TO LavaCon? The universe would collapse from the excess of awesomeness, right? We’ll soon see, as mine will be stowed away in my R2 unit.
Thanks John! I can’t wait to meet face to face.
